My Reflection :

We were learninhg about biospheres  and then we started making some . This is my groups one as you can see  we have a farm , water cycle ,  beach , forest , bedrooms / toilets , kitchen , vet / doctors , storage room , power systems and labs we need all that stuff to live .

Reflection :
This is my plan for my Narrative plan . The hardest part was the last bit writing about your own character, because it doesn't really tell u much about my character William,  but the easiest bits were writing about Yeats and what happend in the story .

over the past weeks we have been learning and doing a lot of fun activites with our best student teacher ever 


 Swimming, we have been having swimming lessons . Mrs graham and miss Terry has been teaching the unconfined swimmers and the mrs pittaway has been teaching the confident swimmers . we have learnt how to breath properly  , freestyle  and a little bit of back stroke and then we get free time


Athletics , all the year 5 and 6 have been doing athletics . We have been doing high jump , long jump , sprints , and shot put my favorite activity is long jump because its so fun . we have inter school athletics coming up on Wednesday

between two ends, our student teacher Mrs terry has been reading us a novel book called between two ends it is about a boy   named Yeats and his parents visit his grandmother's creepy old house, Yeats reunites a pair of pirate bookends and uncovers the amazing truth . Also its about a girl named Shari and she went into the book so Yeats went to find her.

dancing , all the year 6 have been practicing dancing for the end of year dance . A instructor comes and teaches us we dance with a boy and then we keep switching partners .

Over this week we have been learning a lot of stuff ...

We have been writing a ballad its some sort of poem .  To make a poem a ballad it should have  4 lines in each stanza , ABCB rhyming pattern and structure like a story .


We have also been doing paper mache . Since we have been learning about planets we are making paper mache planets .


For maths we have been learning about geometry , Our teacher sent us a google slide that had task about geometry on it we had to answer some questions about shapes and we also had to play some geometry games .


We have been reading a book called between two end it is quite a difficult book to understand . the book is about When Yeats and his parents visit his grandmother's creepy old house, Yeats reunites a pair of pirate bookends and uncovers the amazing truth: Years ago, Yeats's father traveled into The Arabian Nights with a friend, and the friend, Shari, is still stuck in the tales

My Reflection:
Room 20 has been learning how to write a ballad it was very fun because we have neither done it before. We have learnt that you have to have 4 lines in each stanza and also it has to be in a abcb rhyming pattern. My ballad is about going for a walk.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been very busy learning new stuff.

On Monday the 9th of September all the year 6 went to camp MERC in long bay . It was so fun we got to do a lot of activities such as body boarding , stack EM, giant ladder , abseiling, rock climbing, sling shot , archery and outdoor survival. My favorite activity was abseiling and stack EM  , I would love to go again


The gymnastic team had a gymnastic competition the day after camp . So we went to champ champs because we won the competition that we had before champ champs . We went to champ champ in the school van and we competed we did very well but only the boys got a placing they came 2 they did very well, we all did very well


other than that we have just been doing a story called show don't tell . We wrote about camp MERC and what our favorite activity was. Show don't tell is when you write a story and you have to say how you re feeling but you try not to tell them so say I wrote ( example )  my heart was beating fast because I was scared you wouldn't say that because that is telling everyone what your feeling you are just supposed to write ( example )  My heart was beating fast . So that is what a show don't tell story is about.

My Reflection :
Room 20 has been making show don't tell stories about how much fun we had at camp . We had to choose one activity that we liked the most , I choose abseiling. We had to highlight the sentences that were show not tell sentences. Show not tell is when you right a story but you say stuff that actually doesn't tell you like how you are feeling .

My Reflection :

All of the year 6 from elm park school went to camp MERC. It was really fun we did a lot of cool activity's and we also learnt about Sir Peter Blake .  This certificate was from the people who work at camp MERC .

Prediction

My reflection :
Room 20 has been learning about how to make a prediction . We have been reading the book called the wrinkle in time. We had to make a prediction on what we thought was going to happen in the story .

Recount from pakuranga

conclusion : 

Yesterday on the 17th of august most of the elm park school year 6 went to pakuranga intermediate for an open day .  We traveled by bus. We went to pakuranga intermediate so that we could see what intermediate is like.

Body :

When we first got there they welcomed us into there hall and they talked to us about what we were going to do .  After that we got split up into different groups my group was group one . first my group went to hard materials and we got to make a cup holder but we did not get to finish them.  After that we went to pacific

and we got taught the Pacific actions ( dance moves ) . It was really fun because the teacher was really funny. After that we went back to the hall and 2 students from pakuranga intermediate talked to everyone about there school.

Conclusion : 

I had a great day, there school looks like a good school.  

Reading

speech 2016

Over the past weeks we have been making our 2016 speeches. I did mine on why schools should be mufti.  It took me a long time to make this because there is a lot of planning to do .

Term 3 week 1 diary post

This week we have had a busy week. We have been learning a lot of new things.

Every Tuesday and Thursday we have our cross country practice. For our cross country practices we go around the block and go for a run. 

Every Wednesday we have people come and teach us about mountain biking. Last Wednesday we had a fun biking lesson because we got to ride around the courts and we got to play a game. The game was that you had to bike around on the courts and if we put our feet on the ground  we were out,and the instructor kept making the square smaller and  smaller. I came 2 to last.

 

We still do SDL ( self directed learning ) . But we do it differently now. There's this google app and its called my work space, out teacher sets us task and we have to complete them by a certain time , It will come up saying on the side when it is due by.  Some of the activities that Mrs Graham set for us was a maths activity  which was when you have to explain about math symbols and the second activity was a reading activity , it was a wrinkle in time , its the same thing you have to explain about that story . I like this SDL way better because it is easier to get to .

Netball game

The netball A team had a netball game yesterday . We versed Wakaranga school. We one by 3 points the final score was 20-17.

I played GA , GA is goal attack. Goal attack is when you get to be in your square that you shoot in and the middle square and also your aloud to shoot. 

Art

We are learning about value in art. Such as how light or dark something is.

Chuck close is the person who invented grid value portraits.

At the very beginning before we started making our grid value portraits we were practicing taking our line for a walk. Taking a line for walk means when you do a scribble and then you fill in the gaps with patterns.

Next we had to do enlarging pictures. There was a small picture of a bee and then we had to draw the bee but bigger.

When we were making our portraits we had to do a different pattern in each box . Like stars .

also when we were making our portraits when ever they was a darker spot on our pictures then we would have to make the patterns closer together. And whenever there was a lighter spot then we would have to make the pattern further apart.

Maths sudoku

Refletction:
My friend and I have been doing a math sudoku . A math sudoku you have to look at the numbers on the side and try work out what numbers would add up to = that nuumber. It is really fun.

Term 2 week 8

Over the past few weeks we have been doing a lot of learning

We have been planning for our speech. My speech topic will probably be about homeless people and how we can help them.

We have been reading this book called the green book. It is about how they had to get of earth and go to a planet called shine.  It took 4 years to get there.

Term 2 Week 7

Over the last few weeks we have been doing a lot of learning.

We have started this thing called SDL. SDL stands for self directed learning. It is really fun because my teacher Mrs Graham sends us a google slide and it has all our work that we have to do for the week. So we get to do our learning by our self when  we have done those activities there is another slide next to it and you have to write a reflection so Mrs graham no's that we have done that activities and sometime if we are writing something we have to put a link on the reflection slide so she can go view it. Mrs graham does some work shops with us so that if we get stuck with one of learning activities she will help us understand about that activities.

Another thing that we have been doing is Agamographs. Agamographs is a sort of art. If you look one way it will be a different picture and if you look the other way it will be something differnt.  

For the year 4, 5 and 6 , there is an activity every Tuesday after lunch and it called terrific Tuesday. At the start you have to choose an activate that you will do every Tuesday.

Mixed numbers and improper fractions

My Reflection:
Over the last couple of weeks I have been learning all about Mixed numbers and improper fraction. I had to make a group doc and answer these 5 questions.
It has been taking me awhile to learn about improper fractions because they were a bit harder for me. But mixed numbers were a bit easier for me, Im not sure why but they make more sense to me

It is really fun but it is still a little bit tricky .

Term 2 week 2

 We have been learning a lot about solar system. these are all the planets.  Uranus, jupiter, neptune, mars and saturn, I am really enjoying learning about solar system.

Another thing is I am a milk monitor . A milk monitor is when we deliver milk to class rooms and then collect them when there finished drinking it.

Ever single Friday room 20 and room 22 goes into room 19 class room and we do a hui . A hui is when you get together in a group and sing a lot of Maori songs. It is really fun.


Today on Friday the 13th, The netball A team had there first game of netball .  We versed botany primary .  And we won.  The score was 12 to 2.


The whole year 6s went and watched a movie in the hall. It was called walli.e , it was to do with our solar system learning. It was a really cool movie and i learnt a little bit through out the movie.

 I was learning how to use persuasive Techniques.

The Task was that you had to make a commercial about something to make our holidays more exciting.

We also had to make it appeal to parents so they get persuaded  . The persuasive Technics were

expert opinion - When you get an expert so say that its good .

My group used slogan and repetition. 

Our slogan was Wii Play Wii

And we used repetition by accident because we used the same word over and over again. 

     

Term 1 week 10

Over the last few weeks we have being doing lots of fun things.  One thing we did was all the year sixes had an Easter egg hunt . It was really fun we got to make groups of 4 with the other classes.  The year six teachers hid some fake Easter eggs around the school and each time they would give us a clue to were it is .  And the first 3 teams who had finished finding all of them got some real Easter eggs.


Another interesting thing that happen is we had a Science van come to our school and teach us some stuff about Science .  One of the experiments was putting beads into a glass container and then letting go .  It was interesting because the gravity pushes it up and then down .


We have been making these really cool pixel art .  You have to go on google spread sheet and make the squares smaller and then search up on the internet pixel art .  And then you have to color the squares  the exact same as the picture it is really cool.

Over the last couple of weeks.

Over the last couple of weeks room 20 has been learning a lot of new stuff.
One of the things we have been learning is Maths, place value partitioning.  PVP is a maths strategy.  example 346 + 234 =
You would split the last number into there houses so 200 30 4
And then you would go 346+200= 546
546+30 = 576
576+4=580


We have also been doing a challenge and it is a reading challenge .  The challenge is to read 20 books  in the 4 terms that we are at school. I have already read 6 books over the last 7 weeks. I am gonna try my best to read 20

Another thing that we have been learning is explanation writing .  There is 7 steps to explanation writing and it is plan, draft, revising and sharing, see teacher and type it up , edit and the last one is publish and reflect.


We  also  have a buddy class .  We see them every Friday and sometimes we help them with there uploading and then other times we prepare our vegetable garden but sometimes we play sports with them.


We have been doing youth town.  youth town  is something that we do every Tuesday. The youth-town people come and play sports with us my favorite game is capture the flag .  So these 2 teams and each team has a square on there side with a ball in it and the other team has to try get the ball with out that team tagging you.

Some people from room 20 have been doing service to the school and Im one of them. we have been going to different classes and helping with uploading to there blog. We have helped room 14 , 17, 28 and 29

Explanation Writing

My Reflection :
I have been learning how to write an explanation writing because we have been learning all about the whale rider and The Maori gender roles .  It was fun learning all about the Maori culture. I felt excited to write and explanation because I haven't done it much. At the start I found it tricky but then we read Anahita's explanation so then I new what to do and what the steps were to writing and explanation .  I can't wait to do another explanation writing.

Bias Chapter 8 of the Whale Rider Story

I choose these parts because It shows Koro Apirana being bias to Kahu. Koro Apirana is getting grumpy. . This is chapter 8 of the whale rider story. We had to go through and find the sentences about Koro Apirana being bias to Kahu. And this is what I found. I have highlighted these ones because It shows Koro Apirana being bias to Kahu. He is being bias because he didn't want Kahu to be a girl and Koro Apirana is getting angry because she is not a boy.  And in his family the oldest child is always going to be the chief . Also in Koro Apirana's family all the leaders have been a boy and they have no girl leaders .  So that is why Koro Apirana doesnt like Kahu being a girl
 Bias is  Focusing on one side of the story.  It could be forms of racism, sexism or other cultural beliefs.  It can involve people forming stereotypes.

My Reflection :
  I enjoyed doing this activate because I have never done it before but we have talked a lot about bias so I did know what bias meant .  Next time I need to work on finding more bias parts because I only found 3 .  

Reading Challenge

My Reflection:
Room 20 has been doing a reading challenge .  I have read 6 books already . Billion air boy , Thea Stilton, Timmy failure , demon dentist , tattoo mum and weirdo 2 . I find it a bit tricky to find books that fit the category's.   I am gonna try really hard to read all 20 books .

My Reflection :
Room 20 has been making graphs .  I did learn how to do this last year but I forgot. I love making graphs I think thats because I love maths.

Term 1 weeks

Over the last 4 weeks at school Room 20 has been learning a lot of new learning things . We have been learning how to make music with our body that means making music using our hands, feet, and  mouths.
We have also been having the youth town people come to our school to play sports with us . They come and play different  games with us every Tuesday. My favorite game is capture the flag you have to be good at running, dodging and working as a team.

 Room 20 has been listening to a story called the whale rider, and then we went and made a venn diagram about the story for those people who don't know what a venn diagram is about its when you draw two circles and then in one circle you would say what that character is about and then in the other circle you do the same thing but witha different character. You have to draw the circles over lapping because in the middle of it you have to write what is common to them both. I like this story because it is about New Zealanders. My favorite character is kahu te rangai .

One other thing that we have been learning is reading big numbers. My teacher said that you can read any big numbers and you actually can, even though they are big you can still read them . Example 2,455,346,36 this is 2 million 455 thousand 346 hundred and 36.

Whale Rider

   My Reflection:  Mrs graham has been reading us a book called the whale rider. Then we had to do a venn diagram about the story the middle circle is what is the same about Nanny flower and kahu te rangi and on the outside circles is is about them self. I enjoyed doing this I would love to do this again.

My Basic Facts Progress

My Reflection :  Room 20 has been doing basic fact test .  I got a score of 92 but then in the next couple of weeks I bet my score and I got 98 out of 100. I think that I need to improve my time because I did it in 4 minutes. I love to do basic fact test .
